To Sudan With Love’s Eid Al-Fitr project surpassed our expectations in terms of the number of families we, with Allah’s blessings, were able to reach out to.
We began on Saturday 26th of Ramadan (26/8/2011) with the help of many kind volunteers, one of which, without hesitation, opened his home to us to work in. We sorted out the abundant clothes donations into groups and packaged them accordingly into clear plastic bags.
The following day, we packaged 300 hampers. Each hamper contained a set of clothing, 1 kg Sugar, 1 kg flour, 3 packets of candy, and 2 packets of powdered juice.
These hampers were distributed in a poorly inhabited area between Al Salama and Mayo which we have sadly learnt will be torn down. Despite the chaos due to the number of people crowding to receive their packages, we were able to distribute the items in an organized manner with the aid of the police patrol in the area, alhamdulilah.
Later on in the evening, a further 200 hampers were purchased and packaged. These hampers contained 1 packet of tea, 1 kg flour, 1 kg Sugar, 3 packets of sweets and 2 packets of powdered juice.
On Monday 29th of Ramadan, the informal settlement of Al Jazeera, located in Khartoum North received the hampers.
After the distribution, we purchased an additional 100 hamper items containing 2 kg flour, 2 kg sugar, 2 packets of tea, 2 packets of juice and 4 packets of sweets and were distributed to families in various places in the areas Omdurman and Khartoum North.
What’s Eid without children? And what’s Eid without candy for children?
It was heartening to see beautiful smiles appear on the children’s faces as they eagerly received their treats (candy, small amount of money in coins).

Our original target for Eid Al-Fitr project was 300 hampers but due to the bountiful donations we managed to double the amount. We are ever so thankful for all the overwhelming support we have received during the Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr projects from all of our members, and hope we will continue to receive a helping hand in bridging the gap between the fortunate and the less fortunate in Sudan: helping spread the love and smiles.
Love and gratitude,
To Sudan With Love
